Turning Another Corner

I thought that, with the upturn in the real estate market that when I listed my condo in August that it would go quickly.  After all, sales had been going up and inventory was very low, but it too six months to sell and I had to come down in price, but sell it I did!  A lovely family from Venezuela with an interesting heritage will be moving in in a few months (my closing is April 1st) and I will say goodbye to Florida and hello to North Georgia,  I have been going back and forth for several years now and will finally make the move to Cumming, which is about an hour North of Atlanta.  It used to be a small town but was the fastest growing area in the country until the recession hit and is starting to come back.  I know I am looking forward to having four seasons and some hills and mountains and smelling wood burning in fireplaces and people who are friendly and polite.

It will be strange for me to live in a town with so many churches and probably no Jews.  I hope that once my new friends and neighbors realize that Jews really don't have horns (this is the Deep South we are talking about where the Klan marched not that many years ago), I hope to make new friends.  My sister has already warned me to remove my Obama, Hillary, PFLAG and If You Are Tired Of Hearing Crazy Voices In Your Head Turn Off Fox News bumper stickers from my car so I won't find it keyed or on fire, but maybe there is a non-Tea Party, non-Birther, believer in women's rights, sensible gun laws and medical marijuana person who isn't a Teabaggers/non-science believer/racist/homophobe/woman's rights  hater within 50 miles I can hang with.

I will be close to my Mom, little sister, Sue, who is a vet, who I hope to help with her new non profit spay/neuter/microchip/vaccination clinic, which will initially deal with the rescue groups and humane society and might eventually be open to the public. I will also be near my many cousins in Georgia,, North and South Carolina and Tennessee as well as my niece, grand nieces and great grand nephew,  and my former business partner and friend, Mark.  And it will also be easier for me to visit the kids and them to visit me.  Becca will be coming from Israel for two weeks and we are planning on going up to Boston to visit L.D. and Yaffit for a few day and see my first cousin, Liz, my Law schoombest friend and L.D.'s best friend, Ben, who used to work for me.  I think I could make my way blindfolded through the airport by now.

This Friday afternoon and a week from Saturday I am having the indoor version of a yard sale to sell furniture, furnishing, Sony electronics (turntable, dual cassette player, CD/DVD  player, tuner and speakers), vinyl records, CDs, video cassettes, DVDs, luggage, linens, cameras, cookbooks and reference books, kitchen things, camping gear, skis, tennis racquets , my ReBike recumbent bike, my barbecue grill and a bunch of stuff I either no longer can use or which would be less expensive to sell here than ship up there and buy new.  Let me know if you want to come so I can give your name to my gate people.

I hope to dash up to Cumming after that to look for a house to buy.  I've been looking online for 6 months and I know I want to downsize, but if any of you pass my way in the future or want to get away, I will have a guest room.  In between packing I hope to see some of the movies on my long list, so if you would like to join me, I'm sure there is one we would both enjoy, and I want to go to my favorite Indian restaurant in West Palm one more time, so if anyone likes great Indian food, call me.

I never expected to be here 14 years because I came here by accident and ended up staying, but I will miss everyone.  At least there is Facebook, Twitter, Skype and the phone.  Or you could come up and see me.
